Starlink, the satellite broadband arm of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has initiated its first round of hiring in India as it prepares to launch satellite-based internet services in the country.

The move marks a significant milestone in Starlink’s efforts to establish a local presence and deliver high-speed, low-latency internet to underserved and remote regions across India.

Key Roles Open in Finance and Compliance at Starlink

According to job postings on the SpaceX careers portal and LinkedIn, Starlink is currently hiring for several finance and accounting positions.

These include roles such as accounting manager, payments manager, senior treasury analyst, and tax manager.

All positions are based in Bengaluru, which will serve as the operational hub for Starlink’s India operations.

The company stated in its job descriptions that it is looking for professionals who can support financial reporting, compliance, and treasury operations as it expands its international footprint.

These hires are expected to play a critical role in ensuring that Starlink’s India subsidiary aligns with local regulatory and financial frameworks.

Regulatory Approvals and Market Entry

Starlink’s hiring activity follows recent regulatory progress in India.

The company received key approvals from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) earlier this year, allowing it to move forward with its commercial plans.

Starlink is also working closely with Indian authorities to meet licensing and security requirements necessary for launching satellite internet services.

The company’s entry into India places it in direct competition with other satellite internet providers such as Bharti-backed OneWeb and Jio Satellite Communications.

However, Starlink’s global experience and existing satellite infrastructure could give it a competitive edge in reaching remote and rural areas where traditional broadband connectivity remains limited.

Focus on Underserved Regions

Starlink’s core mission is to provide reliable internet access to regions with limited or no connectivity.

In India, this aligns with the government’s broader goals of digital inclusion and rural connectivity.

By leveraging its constellation of low-Earth orbit satellites, Starlink aims to offer high-speed internet services even in geographically challenging areas.

Reports suggest that the one-time setup cost for Starlink’s hardware in India could be around Rs 30,000, with monthly subscription plans starting at approximately Rs 3,300.

While this pricing may initially appeal to niche segments, it could become more accessible as the service scales and competition intensifies.

Starlink Building a Local Team for Long-Term Operations

The current hiring drive is focused on building a foundational team to support Starlink’s financial and operational needs in India.

However, industry observers expect that the company will expand its recruitment to include roles in customer support, technical operations, and regulatory affairs as the launch date approaches.

Bengaluru’s selection as the base for Starlink’s India operations reflects the city’s strong talent pool and its status as a hub for technology and innovation.

The company’s decision to invest in local hiring underscores its long-term commitment to the Indian market.
