EPFO Offices to be Reimagined as “Single-Window” Service Hubs

In a move aimed at ending the bureaucratic hurdles faced by millions of salaried employees, Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, has announced a massive structural revamp of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).
Addressing the inauguration of the newly constructed ‘Bhavishya Nidhi Bhawan’ in Vatva, Gujarat, on December 26, 2025, the Minister revealed that EPFO offices nationwide will be transformed into modern, technology-enabled, single-window service centers modeled after the successful “Passport Seva Kendra” (PSK) format.
The “Anywhere Service” Revolution
The cornerstone of this reform is the breakdown of regional jurisdictional barriers.
Currently, EPF members are often forced to coordinate with the specific regional office where their employer is registered.
Under the new “Single-Window” framework, a beneficiary will be able to resolve any EPF-related issue at any regional office across the country.
“We are moving toward a borderless service environment,” Dr. Mandaviya stated. A pilot project for this nationwide portability is already underway in Delhi.
Once fully implemented, an employee working in Bengaluru but residing in Delhi will no longer need to navigate remote offices for claim settlements or grievance redressal.
EPFO Introducing “EPF Suvidha Providers”
Acknowledging that many workers, especially first-time users and those in the informal sector, struggle with digital-only platforms, the government will introduce EPF Suvidha Providers.
These authorized facilitators will act as a bridge between citizens and the EPFO, guiding members through the complexities of:
- Filing claims and withdrawals.
- Updating KYC and profile details.
- Navigating the newly launched digital portals.
This initiative will reduce the reliance on unscrupulous third-party agents. It will also ensure that the most vulnerable workers can access their savings with dignity.
Mission-Mode Cleanup of Inoperative Accounts
The Minister also flagged a significant concern: the thousands of crores locked in “inoperative accounts” due to missing KYC or accessibility issues.
To address this, the EPFO will launch a mission-mode KYC verification drive.
- Automated Platform: A dedicated digital platform will simplify claim filing for these dormant accounts.
- Hassle-Free Settlement: The goal is to return unclaimed funds to the rightful beneficiaries or their legal heirs through a streamlined, forensic audit of old records.
EPFO Expanding Social Security to 100 Crore Indians
The revamp is part of a broader vision to scale India’s social security net.
Dr. Mandaviya highlighted that India has increased its social security coverage from 19% in 2014 to 64% in 2025, covering approximately 94 crore people.
The government has set an ambitious target to cover 100 crore citizens by March 2026.
Furthermore, the Minister announced that India’s future Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) will incorporate social security protection provisions.
This will ensure that Indian workers employed abroad can retain their provident fund contributions.
For instance, those under the India-UK FTA will be able to access their benefits seamlessly upon their return to India.
