DTDC Opens Women-Only Dark Store in Indore

DTDC Express Ltd, one of India’s leading integrated logistics service providers, has launched an all-women-operated dark store in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

This move is part of the company’s broader strategy to enhance its rapid-commerce capabilities while promoting gender inclusivity in logistics operations.

The facility, spanning 700 square feet, is fully staffed and managed by women who oversee end-to-end functions including inventory management, last-mile delivery, cash-on-delivery collections, and client servicing.

A Step Toward Inclusive Logistics

The Indore dark store is the latest addition to DTDC’s growing network of rapid-commerce hubs under its Raftaar service.

By staffing the facility entirely with women, DTDC aims to create a more inclusive work environment and challenge traditional gender roles in logistics and supply chain management.

Before taking charge, the women employees underwent extensive training in DTDC’s Warehouse Management System (WMS), rapid-commerce tools, and delivery protocols.

This initiative reflects DTDC’s commitment to building a diverse workforce and empowering women in operational roles that have historically been male-dominated.

The company believes that inclusive hiring not only improves workplace culture but also enhances service quality and customer engagement.

Operational Role of Dark Stores

Dark stores are non-customer-facing facilities designed to fulfill online orders quickly and efficiently.

They play a critical role in rapid-commerce models, which prioritize speed and convenience in urban delivery.

DTDC’s dark stores are strategically located across tier 1 and tier 2 cities including Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Cochin, Bhopal, Kanpur, Nagpur, Udaipur, and Meerut.

The Indore store will serve as a key node in DTDC’s rapid-commerce network, enabling faster order processing and delivery in the region.

With women managing all aspects of operations, the store also serves as a proof of concept for gender-inclusive logistics models.

DTDC Training and Workforce Development

DTDC has invested in comprehensive training programs to prepare its women workforce for the demands of rapid-commerce logistics.

The training covers technical systems, safety protocols, customer interaction, and cash handling.

This ensures that employees are equipped to manage high-volume operations while maintaining service standards.

The company has also emphasized workplace safety and support systems to foster a secure and empowering environment for women employees.

This includes ergonomic infrastructure, flexible scheduling, and grievance redressal mechanisms.
