Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has announced a massive investment of ₹15,000 crore to establish an advanced manufacturing facility in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

This strategic expansion, finalized under the Maharashtra government’s industrial promotion scheme, is set to transform the Vidarbha region into a primary hub for electric vehicles (EVs) and high-end automotive engineering.

Mahindra & Mahindra Fueling the EV Revolution

The core of this ₹15,000 crore capital expenditure is directed toward the production of M&M’s upcoming Born Electric (BE) range.

The Nagpur plant will feature highly automated assembly lines designed for the company’s new INGLO platform.

By decentralizing its manufacturing footprint beyond the saturated Chakan and Nashik belts, Mahindra aims to create a dedicated ecosystem for EV components, battery pack assembly, and power electronics.

This investment aligns with M&M’s goal to have 20% to 30% of its total portfolio comprise electric SUVs by 2027.

Economic Impact and Employment Surge

The project will be a game-changer for the local economy.

Beyond the direct investment, the company projects that the facility will create over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region.

The Maharashtra government has facilitated this by providing a mega-project status, ensuring fast-track clearances and significant power and land incentives.

Industry experts suggest that the “Mahindra Effect” will likely draw a secondary tier of auto-component suppliers to Nagpur.

This influx will further boost the industrial landscape of the Samruddhi Mahamarg corridor.

Strategic Logistics Advantage

Nagpur’s geographical location at the “Zero Mile” of India offers M&M a logistical edge.

The proximity to the Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) and the enhanced connectivity provided by the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway will allow for seamless distribution of vehicles to both North and South Indian markets.

M&M views this move as a strategic step to optimize supply chain costs and reduce the lead time for vehicle deliveries.

Mahindra & Mahindra Commitment to Sustainability

M&M has indicated that the Nagpur facility will be a “Green Factory,” utilizing renewable energy sources and zero-liquid discharge systems.

This investment underscores the group’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2040.

Simultaneously, it solidifies their position leading the transition toward sustainable mobility in India.
