The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), part of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has opened applications for its External Student Internship Programme. The last date to apply is March 31.

Internship for Science and Technology Students

This program is open to undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD students studying Science or Technology at recognized institutions. Applicants must be Indian citizens and have at least 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.32 out of 10.

Students who finished their course within the last six months can also apply. Selection depends on academic performance, how well the project matches IIRS work, and the availability of mentors.

Duration and Structure

The length of the internship depends on the course:

  • Minimum: 45 days
  • Maximum: Up to one year

Some conditions apply. For example, BTech students should have completed their 6th semester, and PhD students should have finished their coursework.

There is also a Student Project Trainee Scheme. This allows students to work on academic projects linked to areas like remote sensing, geoinformatics, and environmental studies.

No Stipend, Certificate Provided

IIRS does not offer any stipend, financial support, or accommodation. However, students who complete the internship and submit their project will receive a certificate.

Interns can only access non-sensitive areas of ISRO facilities. They must also follow all rules, including getting approval before sharing or publishing any work.

Application Process and Deadlines

Applications are accepted twice a year:

  • March 31
  • October 31

Students must apply online through the IIRS portal. Applications sent by email or offline will not be accepted.

Applicants need to upload academic records and a No Objection Certificate (NOC) or recommendation letter from their institution.

Experience with ISRO Work

This internship gives students a chance to work with scientists and learn how space and Earth observation projects are done in real settings. It can help strengthen both academic and career plans.

Since the current deadline is March 31, interested students should apply as soon as possible through the official ISRO portal.
