Rolls-Royce has unveiled a transformative roadmap for its Indian operations, aiming to more than double its local workforce to approximately 10,000 people.

This strategic pivot, announced by CEO Tufan Erginbilgic following a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 11, 2026, seeks to establish India as the company’s third “home market” outside the United Kingdom.

A Decade of Growth and Local Integration

The expansion plan centers on making India a global hub for high-tech manufacturing and advanced engineering.

Currently, the Rolls-Royce ecosystem in India supports over 4,000 jobs, including 2,800 engineers who contribute to global aerospace and defense programs.

By scaling to 10,000 employees, the company intends to deepen its “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) commitment.

This surge in hiring will be accompanied by a massive 10-fold increase in local supply chain sourcing, which is expected to benefit over 100 Indian vendors and numerous small-to-medium enterprises.

Focus on Defence and Combat Aviation

A cornerstone of this roadmap is the co-development of a next-generation 120 kN class combat jet engine core for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program.

Rolls-Royce has offered full technology transfer and intellectual property ownership to India.

This initiative includes establishing a dedicated design complex and manufacturing facilities locally.

Consequently, this ensures that the next generation of fighter jets is powered by indigenous technology.

Rolls-Royce Expanding Land, Sea, and Energy Capabilities

Beyond aviation, Rolls-Royce is exploring partnerships to localize the production of engines for the Indian Army, Navy, and Coast Guard.

The company already has over 1,400 engines powering Indian platforms, from Jaguar fighter jets to Arjun Main Battle Tanks.

The new strategy also includes providing sustainable power solutions for critical infrastructure and industrial applications.

This initiative further aligns with India’s “Viksit Bharat” vision for national security and energy resilience.

Rolls-Royce Strengthening the R&D Footprint

The company recently inaugurated an expanded Global Capability and Innovation Centre in Bengaluru.

This facility is set to become one of Rolls-Royce’s largest globally, housing digital, engineering, and enterprise services teams.

Rolls-Royce aims to leverage India’s vast talent pool.

Consequently, they will drive innovation in digital twinning, sustainable propulsion, and complex manufacturing for their global civil aerospace and defense divisions.
