Samsung, India’s largest consumer electronics brand, has announced a significant expansion of its flagship Digital & Offline Skills Training (DOST) Sales Programme, committing to train 9,400 young people from underserved communities for careers in frontline retail roles.

This scale-up marks the launch of DOST Sales 4.0.

It reaffirms the company’s dedication to cultivating a skilled, future-ready workforce and aligns directly with the government’s Skill India initiative.

The initiative, first introduced in 2021, aims to make 50,000 youth job-ready over the next few years.

Samsung DOST programme: Targeting the Organised Retail Sector

The DOST programme stands for Digital & Offline Skills Training.

It is an industry-first initiative focused on bridging the skill gap within India’s rapidly expanding organized retail sector.

The current expansion reflects Samsung’s confidence in the program’s success, evidenced by training enrolment increasing threefold this year.

The company is executing this comprehensive skill development mission in collaboration with key government-aligned bodies: the Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI) and the Telecom Sector Skills Council (TSSC).

This robust partnership ensures the training modules meet rigorous, industry-aligned standards and provide graduates with a nationally recognized certification.

This collaboration is key to creating real pathways to employment and fostering inclusive economic growth.

A Five-Month Pathway to Employability

The DOST Sales Programme is a focused five-month initiative.

It is designed to equip participants with the confidence, knowledge, and practical competencies necessary so that they can thrive in a dynamic retail environment.

The structured curriculum includes two phases of learning:

  1. Classroom and Online Modules (180 hours): Trainees undergo 120 hours of online classroom sessions led by certified trainers from ESSCI and TSSC. This is supplemented by 60 hours of specific retail instruction delivered by Samsung’s own retail sales experts. The modules cover essential skills, such as customer interaction and communication, sales fundamentals, product demonstration skills, store operations, and service excellence.
  2. On-the-Job Training (OJT): Following the classroom training, each participant completes five months of hands-on, paid On-the-Job Training (OJT). This OJT takes place at Samsung retail stores across the country. During this crucial period, trainees gain vital practical exposure to customer engagement, product knowledge, billing systems, store workflow, and sales conversion techniques. Additionally, they receive a monthly stipend from Samsung to support their learning experience.

Upon successful completion and assessment, the governing body awards eligible candidates a government-recognized National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) certified credential.

This certification is highly valued, and it enhances their employability across the consumer electronics retail ecosystem.

Furthermore, it opens new pathways for long-term career growth.

By expanding the DOST initiative, Samsung aims to deepen its contribution to India’s inclusive economic development.

This ensures that we empower young aspirants from diverse regional and social backgrounds with the foundational skills needed for sustainable careers in digital-first retail.

The programme is a cornerstone of Samsung’s broader “Powering Digital India” vision.
