Cognizant has officially launched the third edition of its flagship national-level innovation platform, Technoverse Hackathon 2026.
This year, the initiative has evolved from a regional competition into a massive nationwide stage, engaging over 20,000 engineering students from more than 400 colleges across India.
Cognizant Advancing Inclusive Innovation
In a significant move for the Indian tech landscape, Cognizant has mandated 50% women participation for the event.
Every participating team of four must include at least two female members.
This policy reinforces the company’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, ensuring that the next generation of technology leaders reflects a balanced and diverse perspective.
Rajesh Varrier, Chairman and Managing Director of Cognizant India, emphasized that the hackathon is designed to help “India’s brightest engineering minds” bridge the gap between academic theory and enterprise-scale problem-solving.

Focus on Generative AI and Industry Impact
The 2026 edition is heavily centered on Generative AI and modern engineering practices.
Participants are tasked with building smart solutions and Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) across high-impact sectors, including:
- Healthcare & Life Sciences: Focusing on decentralized clinical trials and digital biomarkers.
- Banking & Insurance: Addressing fraud detection and personalized engagement.
- Communications & Media: Exploring 5G monetization and AI-driven content creation.
The competition journey includes an “Agent Builder” challenge and a design thinking awareness session.
The program will culminate in May with a 24-hour in-person grand finale at Cognizant’s facility in Pune.
Skilling for the Future
Technoverse 2026 aligns with Cognizant’s broader Synapse initiative, which aims to upskill two million individuals in technology—particularly GenAI—by 2030.
Top-performing teams stand to win exciting rewards, including a prize pool of approximately ₹5 lakhs and coveted internship opportunities with the firm.
The IT sector is shifting toward AI-led transformation.
Initiatives like Technoverse provide a critical pipeline for “Agentic HR” and technical talent ready to navigate complex global digital ecosystems.
