Ira Bindra, President – People & Talent at Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), has achieved significant global recognition, being named among the world’s top Chief Human Resources Officers (CHROs) in the prestigious 2025 Leaders40 Top CHRO Award.

The list, compiled by N2Growth, a global executive search and leadership advisory firm, in partnership with the Stanford Graduate School of Business, places RIL as the only Indian company represented and Ira as the first Indian woman executive of an Indian firm to be featured.

Ira secured the 28th position on the globally respected list, joining HR leaders from some of the world’s most influential companies, including JPMorgan Chase, Caterpillar Inc., Walmart, and Apollo Global Management.

The recognition underscores the critical role that human capital management plays in driving the massive, multi-sector transformation underway at the Mukesh Ambani-led conglomerate.

Leading Enterprise-Wide Transformation

As President – People & Talent, Ira partners directly with the Chairman, Executive Committee, and business leadership.

Her goal is to shape the company’s comprehensive people and culture agenda.

Her primary mandate is to lead enterprise-wide talent and culture transformation for Reliance’s 360,000-strong workforce.

This workforce spans a diverse portfolio including energy, retail, telecommunications (Jio), media, and burgeoning green technologies.

The Leaders40 Selection Committee noted that the modern CHRO has evolved from merely a people leader into a strategic partner to the CEO and the board.

This strategic role involves driving performance and culture at the highest level.

Ira’s citation highlighted her qualifications:

“Ira is a global Human Resources and business transformation leader with over two decades of experience driving growth, innovation, and organizational excellence across Fortune 100 companies and high-growth enterprises. Her career spans multiple industries, geographies, and business lifecycles, where she has led integrated business, people, and culture strategies that enable high performance and sustainable transformation.”

Reliance HR Chief: A Career Marked by Global Leadership

Ira built her inclusion on a distinguished career spent managing complex organizational transformations across multiple industries and international geographies.

Before joining Reliance, Ira held several senior global HR leadership roles at Medtronic, the world’s largest medical device company.

Prior to Medtronic, she spent 19 years with General Electric (GE), holding diverse HR leadership roles across Healthcare, Oil and Gas, Technology Infrastructure, Corporate, and GE Capital in both developed and developing markets, including the United States, Europe, and Asia.

This extensive experience has equipped her with the unique ability to blend business, data, and people strategies.

She uses this ability to impact measurable results.

Ira holds an MBA from the Maastricht School of Management, Netherlands. She also holds a BA (Hons.) in History from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University.

Signaling the Strategic Importance of Human Capital

Chairman Mukesh Ambani personally announced Ira’s appointment to the role itself in December 2024.

This action signaled the unprecedented importance RIL places on human resources transformation.

Reports noted her as the first non-family woman and the youngest member of the group’s influential Executive Committee.

This was the case at the time of her appointment.

The global recognition of Ira underscores the shifting focus of major Indian conglomerates toward world-class human capital practices.

By leading the talent strategy for RIL’s massive workforce across its rapidly diversifying business sectors—from legacy energy to future-forward green energy and retail expansion—Ira is setting a benchmark for organizational excellence.

This benchmark applies not just within India, but on the global corporate stage.

Her work is crucial in shaping the culture that will underpin Reliance’s next phase of ambitious growth and digital leadership.
