Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has renewed and expanded its decade-long collaboration with UK supermarket giant Morrisons to power the next stage of its digital transformation.

The renewed agreement focuses on enhancing customer experiences across 500 stores and online platforms, embedding AI and automation tools at the heart of Morrisons’ operations.

As the country’s fifth-largest supermarket chain serving over 11 million customers weekly, Morrisons is advancing its modernization strategy to meet changing consumer expectations, strengthen its digital capabilities, and drive operational efficiency in a challenging retail climate.

Driving a Data-Driven Retail Transformation

TCS and Morrisons first began their digital partnership in 2014, later formalizing TCS as Morrison’s application and managed services partner in 2016. The collaboration deepened in 2020 with the integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning to strengthen operational resilience and productivity.

The latest contract extends that vision, aligning Morrison’s retail, e-commerce, and marketing functions under a unified, digitally driven framework.

TCS will deliver end-to-end engineering services, from application design and development to testing and maintenance, while expanding AI-powered solutions aimed at optimizing service quality and speed.

Stuart O’Hara, Director of IT Operations at Morrisons, said that TCS’s technical expertise and automation-first model align with the company’s strategic direction.

“As we accelerate our digital transformation, we are confident TCS will help us deliver superior service quality, faster time-to-market, and meaningful value to our customers,” he noted.

Building Operational Intelligence and Agility

Under the extended deal, TCS will establish an automation factory and a Business Intelligence Command Centre (BICC) to give Morrisons a comprehensive operational view.

This initiative will support quicker issue resolution, improved service delivery, and more informed decision-making through real-time analytics. The new framework is expected to reduce manual interventions, limit service disruptions, and create a more cohesive customer journey.

According to Shekar Krishnan, Head of Retail at TCS UK, the partnership showcases the companies’ shared commitment to “large-scale transformation across digital, marketing, and customer engagement,” using engineering excellence and automation to future-proof Morrisons’ retail ecosystem.
