Tata AI Sakhi: Empowering 1,500+ Rural Women to Master AI in Just 2.5 Hours

The Tata Group has successfully concluded the Tata AI Sakhi Immersion Programme, a milestone initiative that empowered 1,553 rural women at the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
This high-touch workshop demonstrated how artificial intelligence can be a practical, language-accessible tool for grassroots entrepreneurship and economic independence.
A Multilingual AI Revolution at the Grassroots
The program focused on moving beyond theoretical awareness to hands-on application.
Participants from six states—Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Delhi NCR—used their own smartphones to perform AI-powered tasks in their native languages.
Guided by a mentorship model of one mentor for every five participants, these women received personalized support.
They completed a staggering 4,727 AI-powered tasks within just 2.5 hours.
Activities included generating product designs, creating marketing materials, navigating complex government schemes, and drafting business communications.
Tata AI Sakhi: Structured Cohorts for Maximum Impact
To ensure relevance, the 1,553 participants were divided into three specific cohorts:
- Artisanal (447 women): Traditional craftswomen used AI to generate innovative design concepts and product photography for heritage crafts like Pattachitra, Madhubani, and Dokra.
- Digitally Literate – Basic (940 women): SHG leaders and micro-entrepreneurs leveraged AI to identify objects, translate documents, and manage administrative applications.
- Digitally Literate – Advanced (166 women): Established entrepreneurs, already earning approximately ₹20,000 per month, explored AI for advanced self-learning and scaling their business operations.
Leadership and Vision for Inclusive Growth
The event was hosted in the presence of Smriti Irani, Chairperson of the Alliance for Global Good. Aarthi Subramanian, ED & COO of TCS, was also present.
Smriti described AI as a “Saarthi” (guide) for women’s progress, emphasizing that technology must empower the entire family unit.
Aarthi Subramanian highlighted that for the Tata Group and TCS, technological advancement must go hand-in-hand with community progress.
The program treats AI as a “force to unlock creativity.” It aims to build sustainable livelihoods and bridge the digital divide in rural India.
