In a major expansion of its Indian operations, Amazon officially inaugurated its second-largest office in Asia on February 23, 2026.

Located in North Bengaluru, the 1.1 million-square-foot facility serves as the company’s new India headquarters, housing over 7,000 employees across key divisions, including e-commerce, technology, payments, and operations.

A Strategic Hub for Innovation

The 12-storey campus was inaugurated by Dr. M.B. Patil, Karnataka’s Minister for Large & Medium Industries.

Situated on a five-acre site approximately 15 kilometers from Kempegowda International Airport, the building is Amazon’s second-largest single-building corporate office globally.

Minister Patil emphasized that such large-scale investments strengthen India’s digital economy and solidify Bengaluru’s status as a global technology hub.

Samir Kumar, Country Manager for Amazon India, noted that the city has been central to Amazon’s 20-year journey in India.

The new hub is designed to foster a “neighborhood” culture, featuring adaptable workspaces, focus booths, and huddle areas to encourage high-speed collaboration and innovation.

Future-Ready Design and Sustainability

Amazon built the campus with a heavy emphasis on employee well-being and environmental responsibility.

Key features include:

  • Amenities: Two floors of cafeterias serving global cuisine, an amphitheater, and dedicated sports facilities for basketball and pickleball.
  • Inclusivity: The design includes sensory surfaces, ergonomic furniture, and step-free access to ensure a welcoming environment for all.
  • Sustainability: Aligned with Amazon’s 2040 Net-Zero Carbon goal, the project utilized responsible material sourcing and high-efficiency energy systems to reduce its carbon footprint.

Amazon Strengthening the $75 Billion India Bet

The launch is a cornerstone of Amazon’s massive financial commitment to India.

The company has already invested over $40 billion and recently pledged an additional $35 billion by 2030.

This investment strategy focuses on three pillars: AI-driven digitization, job creation, and boosting e-commerce exports to a target of $80 billion.

With over 80,000 sellers already active in Karnataka alone, the new headquarters represents a significant deepening of Amazon’s local ecosystem.
