Foxconn Onboards 30,000 Workers at New Bengaluru Mega-Plant

Foxconn massive manufacturing facility in Devanahalli has successfully onboarded 30,000 employees within just eight months of commencing operations.
This rapid workforce expansion at the Karnataka site, officially known as Project Elephant, underscores the unprecedented speed at which the Taiwanese electronics giant is shifting its high-end manufacturing capabilities toward the Indian subcontinent.
Foxconn Rapid Scaling and Infrastructure Growth
The Devanahalli facility, located near the Bengaluru International Airport, spans over 300 acres and represents one of Foxconn’s largest investments outside of China.
The recruitment of 30,000 personnel since April 2024 highlights the sheer scale of the operation.
At its peak, the facility is expected to employ over 100,000 individuals, making it one of the largest single-site industrial employers in the state of Karnataka.
The recruitment drive has focused on a diverse range of roles, from assembly line operators and quality control technicians to advanced hardware engineers and supply chain managers.
To accommodate this massive influx of workers, Foxconn and the Karnataka government have fast-tracked the development of industrial housing and local transport infrastructure to ensure a seamless commute for the new workforce.
Strategic Role in the Global Supply Chain
The Devanahalli plant is a cornerstone of Apple’s strategy to diversify its production of the latest iPhone models.
Reports indicate that the facility has already begun assembly of the iPhone 16 series, contributing to the goal of manufacturing 25% of all iPhones in India by 2028.
Industry analysts note that the speed of hiring at Devanahalli is significantly faster than previous expansions in Tamil Nadu.
This efficiency is primarily due to a “Plug-and-Play” infrastructure model supported by the state government.
This framework allowed Foxconn to transition from breaking ground to full-scale hiring in record time.
Focus on Workforce Diversity and Training at Foxconn
A notable feature of the Devanahalli workforce is its emphasis on gender diversity.
Following the successful model of its Sriperumbudur plant, Foxconn’s Karnataka facility has actively recruited women for its assembly lines.
To maintain high precision standards, the company has implemented a “Skill-Up” program.
New hires undergo intensive four-to-six-week training modules focusing on robotics, circuit board assembly, and international safety standards.
This ensures that the local workforce can meet the rigorous quality demands of premium global consumer electronics.
Economic Ripple Effects in Karnataka
The addition of 30,000 jobs in such a short window has created a massive economic multiplier effect in the Devanahalli region.
Local businesses, from catering and hospitality to logistics and retail, have seen a surge in demand.
The presence of Foxconn is attracting a cluster of component suppliers to the nearby Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR).
This influx could potentially turn Bengaluru into a global hardware hub to rival its reputation as a software capital.
