Indian Army Launches Tech, Cyber, AI & Drone Internship Program

The Indian Army on November 30, 2025, announced the launch of a first-of-its-kind Internship Programme, aimed at providing India’s youth an opportunity to work alongside the Army in cutting-edge domains such as technology, cyber skills, artificial intelligence (AI) and drones.
Deputy Chief of Army Staff Statement
In a statement, Deputy Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Rakesh Kapoor said that the “Army Internship Programme is an endeavour to get the youth of the country to work with their Army in a mutually beneficial mode in various fields like technology (Cyber, AI, drones, etc.), mass communication and accounting.”
He added that interning with the Army would be a “cherished entry” on any young person’s résumé.
According to officials, the pilot version of the programme — conducted this year — attracted strong interest from students across the country. Encouraged by the response, the Army has decided to make it an annual feature.
About the Internship Program
The internships are designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world application, giving interns practical exposure to domains critical to national development and defence modernisation.
Under the programme, interns may work in several advanced technology areas, including AI/ML, cyber security, drone and counter-drone systems, software/app development, data analytics and more.
Additional streams such as mass communication and financial management may also be offered. This move reflects the Army’s broader ambition to deepen civil-military fusion by collaborating closely with academic institutions, start-ups and national technology bodies.
In particular, the newly established Army AI Research and Incubation Centre (AARIC) — inaugurated in December 2024 — exemplifies how the Army intends to bring AI and cutting-edge tech to the centre stage of its capability development efforts.
Under the guidance of mentors from top institutions such as IIT Bombay and IISc Bengaluru, the initiative is expected to yield tangible dividends in the coming years.
With this ambitious initiative, the Indian Army hopes to tap into fresh talent, foster innovation, and strengthen India’s technological and defence readiness — while offering young professionals a unique platform to contribute to the nation’s security and technological advancement.
