The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) invites applications for its prestigious Summer Internship Programme, offering undergraduate and postgraduate students a chance to gain hands-on experience in central banking.

The programme is aimed at students enrolled in postgraduate courses, integrated five-year programmes, and select professional bachelor’s degrees.

Eligible academic streams include Economics, Finance, Management, Statistics, Commerce, Banking, Econometrics, Law, and related fields.

Only pre-final year students from recognised Indian institutions may apply. The internship typically spans three months between April and July, though actual duration may vary based on project needs.

Applications close on December 15, with shortlisting and interviews scheduled for January and February. Final selections will be confirmed by March.

Eligibility, Application Process, and Selection

Applicants must submit their forms through the official RBI internship portal, providing personal and academic information, a statement of purpose, preferred departments, and supporting documents including ID proof, a bonafide certificate, photograph, and signature.

Candidates may choose only one control office, usually corresponding to the state where their institution is located. Each year, up to 125 interns are selected through a competitive screening and interview process.

Pre-final year students from disciplines aligned to RBI’s research and regulatory functions stand the best chance, as the programme focuses on developing analytical and policy-oriented skills.

Stipend, Work Areas, and Internship Experience

Selected interns are placed in various RBI offices across India, where they work on projects, research assignments, data analysis, documentation, and departmental activities under expert supervision.

Their work may span monetary policy, banking regulation, economic research, financial stability, compliance, and data-driven studies. Interns receive a stipend of Rs 20,000 per month.

While accommodation is not provided, outstation candidates are eligible for reimbursement of AC II-tier return train fare. As interns handle sensitive data, they must sign a confidentiality agreement before joining.

The RBI Summer Internship provides emerging professionals with practical exposure to India’s central banking ecosystem, equipping them with critical insights and skills relevant to future roles in finance, policy, and economic research.
