Deloitte Hiring 50,000 People in India, Mangaluru Eyed for Growth

Deloitte plans a large hiring drive in India and is reviewing Tier II cities, including Mangaluru, for future growth, said Romal Shetty, CEO of Deloitte South Asia.
Speaking at TiEcon Mangaluru 2026, Shetty said Deloitte aims to add about 50,000 employees in India. He said this shows India’s rising role in Deloitte’s global business and the growing value of Tier II cities for Global Capability Centers (GCCs).
Deloitte now has around 140,000 employees in India, which is close to one-fourth of its global staff. “We will hire about 50,000 more people,” Shetty said during a talk with Rohit Bhat, President of TiEcon Mangaluru and founder of 99Games and Robosoft.
During a session titled India@2047 – The Trillion Dollar Opportunity, Shetty said Mangaluru is a strong option. “We came very close to Mangaluru. Mangaluru has talent. We will come to Mangaluru, no doubt — it is only a question of time,” he said, pointing to the city’s strength in engineering and medical skills.
Shetty also spoke about India’s place in Deloitte’s global workforce. “One in every four Deloitte employees in the world is in India and is an Indian. My goal is that one in every three employees should be an Indian in the next three years,” he said.
Deloitte is also reviewing cities such as Bhubaneswar, Coimbatore, Lucknow, Indore, and Jaipur. Shetty said the firm is open to buying companies or working with startups when it sees value.
He said nearly half of the world’s GCCs are based in India. To bring more global firms to cities like Mangaluru, he stressed the need for close work between colleges, businesses, and the government. He added that India’s growth will fall short unless 200 or more cities grow at the same time.
