State Bank of India (SBI) announced on March 5, 2026, the induction of 5,783 junior associates.

This recruitment is part of the lender’s aggressive strategy to enhance frontline service capabilities and strengthen branch banking across various States and Union Territories.

High-Stakes Selection Process

The induction follows an intensive selection drive that saw an overwhelming response from aspirants across the country.

Out of a staggering 9,00,771 applicants, only 1,20,006 candidates qualified for the main examination held in November 2025.

The final selection of 5,783 associates marks the culmination of a rigorous two-tier testing process designed to find the best talent for customer support and sales roles.

Vision for a $2.4 Trillion Business

SBI Chairman Challa Sreenivasulu Setty highlighted that this move is aligned with the bank’s ambitious growth roadmap.

The bank aims to double its total business to ₹200 lakh crore ($2.4 trillion) over the next five to six years.

To power this journey, Setty revealed that the bank intends to onboard approximately 16,000 employees annually going forward.

With this latest round, SBI has added over 18,000 new employees during the current financial year.

This represents one of the most expansive talent induction drives in the bank’s recent history, aimed at building a future-ready, digitally skilled workforce.

SBI Strengthening the Frontline

The new recruits will be deployed primarily to handle the surge in branch-level banking activity.

SBI leads the digital space with its Yono app, boasting 96 million users. The leadership maintains that physical branch strength remains vital for trust and consistency.

SBI intends to reduce wait times by increasing its frontline headcount. This move aims to improve the overall “technology-led banking experience” for its 500 million+ customers.
