Wipro Enforces 6-Hour Office Rule, New Hybrid Policy From 2026

Wipro has begun the new year by tightening the implementation of its hybrid work model, introducing clearer and stricter rules around office attendance.
Effective January 1, the IT services major has made it mandatory for employees to spend a minimum of six hours in the office on each designated work-from-office day.
The revised policy applies to Wipro’s existing mandate that requires employees to report to the office three days a week.
While this requirement was already in place, the new rule clearly defines the duration employees must remain on campus between their “in” and “out” punches.
The changes were communicated to employees through internal emails from the HR team and have been positioned as a step toward improving consistency across teams.
Six-Hour Office Rule and Working Hours Clarified
In its communication, Wipro reiterated that hybrid working continues to be central to its long-term workplace strategy.
However, the company emphasised the need for discipline and adherence to the policy “in both letter and spirit” to support collaboration and operational effectiveness.
Importantly, Wipro clarified that the six-hour requirement applies only to the minimum time spent in the office and does not reduce the total daily working hours. Wipro’s standard working day remains 9.5 hours.
Employees are expected to complete the remaining hours from home on the same day after meeting the six-hour on-campus requirement.
The company has stressed that overall productivity and delivery commitments must continue to be met, regardless of where the remaining hours are worked.
Attendance Tracking, Leave Impact, and Reduced Flexibility
The updated hybrid work framework is also closely linked to attendance monitoring and leave management. Employees who fail to meet the weekly work-from-office requirement may see an impact on their leave balance.
According to reports, those who clock less than six hours in the office on a designated office day could face a half-day leave deduction, signalling stricter enforcement than before.
The tightening comes months after Wipro formally rolled out its hybrid work policy in October 2024.
At the time, Chief Human Resources Officer Saurabh Govil had announced that employees would be required to work from the office three days a week, while still being allowed limited remote work flexibility.
Under the earlier framework, employees were eligible for 30 additional remote work days annually, including 15 days for illness and 15 days for caregiving responsibilities. However, under the revised policy effective January 1, this flexibility has been curtailed.
The number of remote work days available under special circumstances has reportedly been reduced to 12 days a year, tightening access to extended work-from-home options.
Together, these changes underline Wipro’s intent to retain a hybrid model while bringing greater structure, accountability, and uniformity to its execution.
