Britannia Industries appoints Rakshit Hargave from Birla Opus CEO

Britannia Industries has appointed Rakshit Hargave as its new Chief Executive Officer and additional Whole‑time Director for a five‑year term starting December 15, 2025, pending shareholder approval.

The board stated that the move underscores its intent to drive sustained growth and enhance competitiveness amid rapid changes in the FMCG landscape.

Hargave is currently working as CEO of the paints business Birla Opus under the Aditya Birla Group, where he led the start‑up and scale‑up phase, establishing six integrated plants and a nationwide distribution network.

Career and Industry Context

Hargave brings over three decades of experience across global and Indian consumer brands including Beiersdorf, Hindustan Unilever, Kimberly‑Clark Lever, Lakmé Lever, and Jubilant FoodWorks.

At Jubilant, he played a key role in launching the Domino’s 30‑minute delivery model. He holds an MBA from the Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University, and an electrical engineering degree from IIT (BHU) Varanasi.

Industry observers view his appointment as timely, given the FMCG sector’s current challenges—cost pressures from inflation, premiumization trends, and evolving consumption patterns.

Britannia stated that the leadership transition aligns with its five‑year strategic roadmap. As Hargave prepares to join Britannia, Birla Opus Managing Director Himanshu Kapania will temporarily oversee its operations until a successor is named.
