Cipla Appoints Achin Gupta as Managing Director & Global CEO

In a major leadership move, Cipla announces the appointment of Achin Gupta as MD & GCEO effective April 1, 2026

Achin is succeeding Umang Vohra, who has served as the MD & Global CEO of Cipla since 2016. This transition is in line with Cipla’s succession planning process to ensure continuity, stability, and a clear vision for the future.

Extensive Experience

Achin brings over three decades of extensive experience in pharmaceuticals and healthcare, with a strong track record of driving growth and operational excellence. His leadership journey reflects deep industry insight, global exposure, and the ability to scale complex businesses across diverse markets.

Before joining Cipla in 2021 as CEO of one of its India businesses, he spent more than eight years at Glenmark Pharmaceuticals. Most recently, he served as Executive Vice President and Business Head for Europe, MEA, and LATAM, leading international expansion and portfolio growth. He had also worked at Glenmark from 2004 to 2012, strengthening its branded and generics footprint.

Earlier in his career, he held key roles at Abbott Laboratories and global consulting firm A.T. Kearney, where he developed strong capabilities in strategy, operations, and transformation.

In his new role, he will guide Cipla’s long-term strategy, expanding in the US and Europe while advancing complex generics and biosimilars. He takes charge amid pricing pressures and regulatory shifts, reinforcing a steady focus on sustainable global growth.
