JioStar Elevates Purnima as EVP– HR for Digital, Sports & Total Rewards

JioStar has promoted Purnima Kumar to Executive Vice President – Human Resources (Digital, Sports) and Total Rewards.
Before this promotion, she served as Head – Total Rewards, People Programs, Talent Acquisition, and Co-Lead JV Integration.
In her expanded role, she will continue to shape the people strategy for JioStar’s fast-growing digital and sports businesses. She will also strengthen the company’s total rewards approach to better connect talent outcomes with business goals.
Extensive Experience
Purnima brings more than 20 years of broad HR experience. She is known for building strong organizations during periods of growth, disruption, reinvention, and major change.
She is currently leading the HR integration for one of India’s largest mergers. This work focuses on building a shared culture, operating model, and people strategy at a scale few companies attempt.
Her career covers HR business partnering, talent strategy, talent acquisition, inclusion and diversity, HR analytics, new center setups, and complex multi-country HR change programs. This background has made her a trusted leader in fast-moving, high-impact environments.
Purnima joined JioStar in November 2024 as Head – Total Rewards, People Programs, Talent Acquisition, and Co-Lead JV Integration.
Before JioStar, she was Executive Director – Talent Acquisition and People Strategy & Programs at The Walt Disney Company, where she helped build strong and sustainable talent systems.
Earlier in her career, she spent over 16 years at Accenture in several senior HR leadership roles across regions.
She holds a B.Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT Delhi and an MBA in Human Resources from XLRI Jamshedpur, combining strong analytical skills with deep people leadership experience.
About JioStar
The Jio-Star merger refers to the November 2024 deal where Reliance Industries combined its media assets, including Viacom18 and JioCinema, with Disney’s India business, Star India, to form JioStar India, an $8.5 billion joint venture.
In February 2025, this led to JioHotstar, created by merging JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar into one platform, bringing major sports like IPL and ICC and entertainment content together, with Reliance holding a 63.16% majority stake.
