NALCO Names Tapas Kumar Pattanayak as Director – HR

National Aluminium Company (NALCO) has named Tapas Kumar Pattanayak as Director – Human Resources.

Tapas is currently serving as the Executive Director (HR) at Indian Oil Corporation (IOC). 

The appointment, recommended by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), underscores Tapas’ expertise and leadership in the field of human resources management.

Role and Responsibilities at NALCO

As the newly announced Director – HR at NALCO, Tapas will play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s human resources strategy.

His responsibilities include staff management, industrial relations, and formulating the human resource policy for NALCO—a Navaratna PSU under the Ministry of Mines.

Reporting directly to the Chairman and Managing Director, he will contribute significantly to NALCO’s expansion and overall management.

Additionally, this appointment grants him a seat on the board of directors, further emphasizing his influence within the organization.

NALCO, Director- HR: Selection Process and Competitors

The PESB conducted a rigorous selection process, interviewing a total of 11 candidates for Director – HR position.

These candidates hailed from various public-sector entities, including Steel Authority of India (SAIL), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), and Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL).

Other entities include Indian Oil (IOC), National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC), Rural Electrification Corporation (REC), and National Textile Corporation (NTCL).

Background and Career Trajectory

Tapas Kumar Pattanayak brings with him over five years of experience at Indian Oil.

He joined the organization as Chief General Manager (HR) in 2019 and was subsequently promoted to the position of Executive Director (HR) in 2022.

His educational background includes studies in personnel management, industrial relations, and law at Utkal University.

Earlier in his career, he served as a personnel officer at Hindustan Copper for two years.
