The vacancies are spread across 35 technical categories. These include posts that are directly involved in railway operations, maintenance, inspection, and infrastructure management.

Vacancies Across Key Technical Departments

Among the approved posts, the Permanent Way department has the highest number of vacancies with 845 positions. The Works department has 470 vacancies, while the Carriage and Wagon department has 450 posts.

The recruitment will also include positions such as Junior Engineers, Depot Material Superintendents, Chemical and Metallurgical Assistants, and technical staff in the Signal and Telecommunication departments.

These roles are considered important for maintaining railway infrastructure and ensuring safe train operations.

Recruitment Process to Begin Soon

The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) are expected to issue Centralised Employment Notifications (CENs) from July 21.

Before the notifications are released, all railway zones have been asked to complete vacancy verification and other administrative formalities, including reservation-related requirements.

The ministry approved the recruitment after reviewing vacancy details submitted by different railway zones through its Human Resource Management System (HRMS).

Focus on Safety and Workforce Strength

The latest approval comes soon after the Railways announced recruitment for 6,565 technician posts, showing its continued focus on filling technical vacancies.

Employee unions have welcomed the decision, saying that filling long-pending vacancies will help reduce workload on existing staff, improve maintenance work, and support safer railway operations.

They have also urged the ministry to continue recruiting more technical professionals as the railway network expands.

Employment Outlook

The recruitment drive will create over 4,000 government job opportunities for engineers, diploma holders, and other technical professionals.

It is also expected to strengthen the railway workforce and improve the efficiency and safety of railway operations across the country.
