Oracle Under Scrutiny as Engineer Says Job Offer Was Revoked Twice

Oracle is facing fresh scrutiny over its hiring practices after a software engineer alleged that the company revoked his job offer twice in 2026, including just five days before his scheduled joining date.

The allegation comes at a time when Oracle is reportedly preparing another round of workforce reductions while continuing to spend heavily on artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and cloud capacity.
Offer withdrawn twice
Tejas Agrawal said on LinkedIn that he had initially received a pre-placement offer from Oracle, which was withdrawn in May 2026. According to his account, the company reissued the same offer in July and fixed his joining date for August 18.

Agrawal said he completed the required documentation and onboarding formalities and made arrangements to relocate. He also said he had stopped pursuing other job opportunities after receiving the renewed offer.
However, on August 13, five days before his joining date, he was informed that the offer had again been withdrawn. He said he had already booked flight tickets and packed his belongings for the move.
For a fresher beginning his career, the second withdrawal has raised concerns over the uncertainty candidates can face even after completing onboarding formalities. NDTV Profit and Business Today have also reported on Agrawal’s account.
Oracle has not publicly commented on the specific allegation.
Fresh layoff reports add to concerns

The incident comes after reports that Oracle managers have been asked to identify roles that could be eliminated ahead of the company’s second fiscal quarter, which begins on September 1.
Reports indicate that some teams could face double-digit percentage reductions. The reported cuts would follow a major workforce reduction earlier this year. Oracle has not officially confirmed the reported upcoming layoffs.
The company has also been reducing its workforce while increasing investment in AI infrastructure. Reports indicate that Oracle’s workforce fell by around 21,000 during fiscal 2026, while capital expenditure reached $55.7 billion, largely driven by spending on cloud and AI infrastructure.
Campus hiring also affected
The latest case also follows reports from May that Oracle had withdrawn campus placement offers from students at several IITs and NITs in India.
Reports said the move affected both full-time roles and internships and came after the company’s earlier global workforce reductions.
For candidates, the developments underline a wider concern in the technology sector: recruitment commitments can change quickly when companies are restructuring or redirecting spending towards new priorities.
For employers, the incidents also raise questions about how offer withdrawals are communicated and how candidates are supported when hiring plans change.
