Intel plans another round of layoffs in its Data Center and AI Group (DCAI) after eliminating around 40,000 jobs globally over the past two years as part of a broader restructuring aimed at improving efficiency and long-term competitiveness.

The move comes just days before the company is set to announce its quarterly earnings, highlighting its ongoing focus on streamlining operations and improving efficiency.
Will it Impact India Workforce?
While Intel has not disclosed the number of employees affected or details of severance benefits for impacted workers, it said the move is part of its ongoing restructuring efforts.
The company has not confirmed whether the latest layoffs in its Data Center and AI Group will affect employees in India. Given Intel’s major engineering and R&D centres in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, which support AI and data center technologies, some impact is possible.

However, the company has not provided any country-specific details, making it too early to determine the implications for its India workforce.
Intel said the layoffs are part of its broader strategy to become a “more focused and efficient company.”
The restructuring is aimed at simplifying the organisation, aligning talent with future business priorities, and accelerating execution, while maintaining its product roadmap and customer commitments.

Part of a Broader Restructuring Strategy
In a statement, Intel said the workforce reductions are part of its broader strategy to position the company for long-term growth by ensuring it has the right roles and skills to support its strategic priorities.
“As part of our broader strategy to become a more focused and efficient company, the Data Center Group is aligning its organization to ensure it has the right roles and skills in place to position the business for long-term success,” the company said.
Intel added that the restructuring “will not impact our product commitments or roadmap,” reaffirming its commitment to customers and ongoing technology development.
The latest layoffs follow multiple rounds of workforce reductions over the past two years as Intel continues to cut costs, simplify its organisational structure, and strengthen its competitive position in the rapidly evolving semiconductor and AI markets.
Focus Remains on AI and Data Center Business
Despite the job cuts, Intel continues to view its Data Center and AI Group as a core growth business. The division recently reported year-on-year revenue growth, reflecting sustained demand for AI infrastructure and enterprise computing solutions.
The restructuring comes at a time when Intel is investing heavily to regain market share and compete more effectively with rivals in the AI chip market.
Industry observers expect the company to provide further updates on its restructuring plans and business outlook when it reports its quarterly earnings later this week.
What It Means for the Workforce
The latest workforce reduction underscores a broader trend across the global technology sector, where companies are reshaping their organisations to balance AI investments with operational efficiency.
Rather than signalling a retreat from AI, Intel’s move reflects its effort to redirect resources toward strategic growth areas while creating a leaner operating model.
As the semiconductor industry continues to evolve, workforce transformation is expected to remain a key element of Intel’s turnaround strategy.
