Oracle India Layoffs: No 6 AM Emails Arrive on September 1

Oracle employees in India waited for possible layoff notices on September 1 after reports of another workforce reduction, but the expected 6 a.m. emails did not arrive. Oracle has not publicly confirmed a new round of India job cuts, leaving employees uncertain about the timing and scale of any further reduction.

The concern followed reports that Oracle managers had been asked to identify roles that could be eliminated as the company reviewed its workforce costs. Some reports indicated that around 2,000 to 3,000 jobs in India could be affected, but Oracle has not confirmed this number.

Why Employees Were Watching September 1

September 1 is the start of Oracle’s fiscal second quarter. Employees were particularly concerned because workers affected during an earlier round of layoffs reportedly received termination emails early in the morning.

  • No expected 6 a.m. layoff emails were reported on September 1.
  • Oracle has not officially announced another India layoff round.
  • Reports have put the possible India job cuts at around 2,000–3,000.
  • The final number and timing of any new cuts remain unconfirmed.

The reported plans come after Oracle reduced its global workforce significantly during fiscal 2026. According to Oracle’s annual report, its total workforce fell from about 162,000 employees in May 2025 to around 141,000 by May 31, 2026, a reduction of approximately 21,000 employees.

India Workforce and Business Impact

Oracle employs a large technology workforce in India, with Bengaluru and other locations supporting development and other operations. Reports earlier this year said the company had made substantial job reductions in India, although Oracle has not publicly provided a country-specific figure for those cuts.

Oracle’s annual filing also shows that the company spent $1.84 billion on severance payments and other exit costs related to restructuring during fiscal 2026. The company said its workforce adjustments were linked to factors including management and product changes, performance issues, business shifts and acquisitions.

The latest reports have also linked the workforce review to Oracle’s large spending on cloud and AI infrastructure. However, it would be incorrect to state that the reported September India cuts are solely because of AI, as Oracle has not given such an explanation.

For employees, the immediate issue is the uncertainty over whether another reduction will take place. As of September 2, there is no official Oracle confirmation of a new September India layoff round or the reported 2,000–3,000 job figure.
