Adidas has confirmed job cuts within its India Technology organisation, while reports indicate that around 350 employees, or nearly half of the workforce at its Gurugram tech hub, may be affected.

The company confirmed the reduction in roles on September 16 but did not disclose the exact number of employees affected.

Adidas said the changes are part of its efforts to align its operating model with the changing needs of the business and simplify parts of the organisation.

Gurugram Tech Hub Cuts

According to reports, the Gurugram India Tech Hub has a workforce of around 700 employees, with about 350 or more reportedly affected by the latest cuts.

The reported figure represents roughly 45–50% of the hub’s workforce, but Adidas has not independently confirmed this number.

The reported cuts involve several technology roles, including:

  • Software engineers
  • Data scientists
  • Data engineers
  • Other technology positions within the Gurugram hub

Employees were reportedly informed about the changes during a town hall on September 15. Reports say some affected employees received exit letters, while another group has been asked to continue until December 15 to complete handovers and explore other roles within the company.

Company Confirms Role Reduction

Adidas has not confirmed the reported 350-plus figure. In a statement, the company said it had made the decision to reduce a number of roles within its Technology organisation in India and said it would provide transition assistance to affected employees.

Reuters reported that Adidas said the impact of the cuts is less than 20% of its India Technology organisation. The company’s technology hubs in Gurugram and Chennai together have nearly 650 employees listed on its website, according to Reuters.

The difference between the company-confirmed figure and the reported impact at Gurugram is important.

While the reduction in roles has been confirmed, the exact number of employees affected and the final scale of the Gurugram cuts have not been publicly confirmed by Adidas.

For HR teams, the development also highlights the employment impact of changes to technology operating models, particularly in large corporate technology centres.

Details regarding severance, notice pay and redeployment for affected employees have not been independently confirmed.
