Layoffs Come Amid Higher AI and Cloud Spending
The latest job cuts come as Oracle continues to increase spending on artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure. The company recently said it would add $700 million to its restructuring costs, taking the expected total for fiscal 2026 to about $2.8 billion. The restructuring plan includes job cuts and contract terminations.
Oracle had already reduced its global workforce by about 21,000 employees during fiscal 2026, taking its headcount from roughly 162,000 to around 141,000.
At the same time, Oracle is continuing to invest heavily in AI infrastructure and data centres. This combination of workforce reductions and higher infrastructure spending has made the latest restructuring closely watched across the technology sector.
The final number of employees affected in India and the full list of teams impacted in the latest round are yet to be officially disclosed.
