KPMG Australia has said that no decision has been made on reports suggesting the firm is planning to cut around 1,000 jobs, following media speculation about a major workforce restructuring.

The clarification came after the Australian Financial Review reported that KPMG Australia was considering reducing nearly 10% of its workforce as part of a cost-saving exercise.

Responding to the report, the firm said it is currently reviewing its business operations but has not finalised any decision regarding employee numbers.

Company Says Review is Ongoing

In a statement, KPMG Australia said, “We are reviewing our operating model and cost base to ensure the firm is well positioned for the future. No decisions have been made, and any speculation on workforce numbers is premature.”

The firm added that it is evaluating a range of options to strengthen its business amid changing market conditions and softer demand for consulting services. It reiterated that the review is still underway and any reports suggesting confirmed job cuts are inaccurate.

According to media reports, the proposed restructuring could affect about 1,000 employees if implemented. However, KPMG has maintained that no final decision has been made.

Firm Focuses on Long-Term Strategy

The reported review comes as consulting firms across Australia continue to face slower demand, rising operating costs and tighter government spending on advisory services.

The professional services sector has also been under greater regulatory scrutiny following governance issues that impacted the consulting industry over the past few years.

KPMG Global Chairman Bill Thomas is currently in Australia to meet partners, employees and clients as the firm continues to strengthen governance and discuss its long-term strategy.

The company said it remains focused on supporting clients while adapting its business to evolving market conditions. “Our priority is to build a stronger and more sustainable firm for the future while continuing to deliver high-quality services to our clients,” the statement said.

KPMG is one of the world’s leading professional services organisations, providing audit, tax and advisory services through a network of member firms in more than 140 countries and territories.

The firm employs over 270,000 professionals globally and serves businesses, governments and public sector organisations across a wide range of industries.
