Tech Mahindra Employee Protests Over Alleged Termination in Hyd

A former Tech Mahindra employee staged a protest outside the company’s Hyderabad campus, alleging that she was terminated after taking three days of leave to care for her ailing 11-year-old daughter.

Employee Alleges Unfair Dismissal

According to The Hindu, the employee, Bhavana, said she joined Tech Mahindra about four months ago. She alleged that she first fell ill during the training period, fainted at work, and had to be hospitalised.

She later took 14 days of medical leave and claimed that despite submitting medical documents, she received warning emails asking her to return to work.

According to Bhavana, the latest dispute arose when her daughter fell seriously ill. She informed her supervisors that she needed three days of leave to care for her ailing daughter.

She alleged that she was asked to log in first and wait for approval from the regional manager. However, after receiving repeated calls about her daughter’s condition, she left to attend to her and informed the company that she would make up for the missed work.

Bhavana claimed that she later received emails asking her to report to work immediately. She was subsequently informed that her employment had been terminated without being allowed to explain her absence.

Workplace Concerns Raised

Apart from challenging her dismissal, Bhavana alleged that employees were expected to report even short breaks from their desks, including washroom visits. She described the work environment as stressful and unsupportive.

Following the incident, she lodged a complaint with the Dundigal police. Police confirmed that they had received the complaint and had started a preliminary inquiry. They have also sought a response from Tech Mahindra as part of the investigation.

Tech Mahindra Responds

In a statement to The Hindu, Tech Mahindra said, “We have connected with the employee and are reviewing the matter with urgency. Tech Mahindra is an employee-focused company, and we remain committed to the well-being and safety of our employees.”
