Cisco President and Chief Product Officer Jeetu Patel has reaffirmed his view that artificial intelligence (AI) will create more jobs than it eliminates, saying early evidence is beginning to support the prediction.

In a post on X, Patel said AI will transform the nature of work rather than reduce the need for human talent over the next five years.

I’ve been saying this for months, and now the early data is beginning to support it. Five years from now, I believe AI will create more jobs than it eliminates,” Patel wrote.

According to Patel, automation does not replace people—it unlocks new opportunities. As AI automates repetitive tasks, businesses can redirect human effort toward innovation, problem-solving, customer engagement, and other higher-value work.

He also dismissed the idea that the economy has a fixed amount of work. Instead, he argued that AI-driven productivity lowers costs, enables new products and services, expands markets, and ultimately creates additional demand for talent.

AI Fluency Will Be the Real Differentiator

Patel believes the future workforce will not be divided by those whose jobs are replaced by AI, but by those who know how to leverage AI effectively and those who do not.

He said professionals who become AI-fluent will be significantly more productive, making AI literacy one of the most critical skills for the future of work. Organizations, therefore, should prioritize upskilling employees to work alongside AI rather than viewing the technology solely as a tool for automation.

Patel’s remarks add to the ongoing debate on AI’s impact on employment. While concerns over job displacement continue, several technology leaders have argued that AI is more likely to reshape existing roles, create new occupations, and accelerate demand for digital and AI-related skills than eliminate jobs on a large scale.
