After TCS Row, Ex-Wipro Employee Alleges Religious Harassment

According to ANI, a former employee of Wipro has accused her former manager of religious harassment and attempting to pressure her into religious conversion during her tenure at the company’s Pune office.

The allegations have prompted a police inquiry, while the technology services company has stated that it is cooperating fully with authorities.
Employee Alleges Sustained Pressure and Workplace Harassment
Like TCS Nashik case, the complainant, who worked at Wipro’s Hinjewadi campus between 2019 and 2025, has filed a complaint with Pune Police and approached the state human rights body.
She alleges that she was repeatedly targeted because of her religious beliefs and subjected to sustained pressure to adopt Islamic practices and convert to Islam.

According to the complaint, the employee faced increasing workplace difficulties after resisting the alleged pressure. She claims that the situation escalated into mental harassment and that she was threatened with adverse performance reviews and possible termination.
The woman has stated that the stress resulting from the alleged treatment ultimately led her to resign from the company.
Police Examining Allegations and Company Response
A senior Pune Police official confirmed that authorities have begun examining the allegations. Police are expected to review the specific claims made by the complainant, along with any relevant internal records and actions taken by the company in response to her concerns.

Speaking on the matter, police official Balaji Pandhare said that the complainant had alleged that her former boss made objectionable remarks and later asked her to resign.
The accused manager is based in Bengaluru and works from there, he added, noting that investigators would also assess the company’s response to the complaint.
The allegations were brought into the public domain during a press conference organized in Pune by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, where the former employee detailed her experience and called for action.
Wipro Reaffirms Zero-Tolerance Policy
Wipro, in its statement, said, “At Wipro, employee welfare, dignity, and respect are paramount. We maintain a zero-tolerance approach towards any form of misconduct, discrimination, harassment, or actions that compromise an individual’s fundamental rights and freedoms.”
“We have been fully cooperating with the authorities in this matter and have provided all relevant documents and information to the Pune Police. As the matter is currently under investigation, we cannot comment on the specifics of the case. We remain committed to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and respectful workplace for all our employees,” Wipro said.
The incident has renewed discussion around workplace conduct, employee well-being, and religious freedom in corporate environments. As investigations continue, authorities are expected to determine whether the allegations warrant further legal action.
