The programme is aimed at encouraging academic research and innovation while offering scholars practical exposure to real-world challenges in public digital infrastructure. Selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend of up to ₹50,000.

The last date to submit applications is July 15, 2026.

Opportunity for Research Scholars

The internship is open to PhD scholars and researchers from recognised academic institutions across India. Through this programme, selected interns will collaborate with UIDAI’s technical and policy teams on research projects aligned with the organisation’s priorities.

The research areas include Aadhaar, digital identity, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, data science, public digital infrastructure, privacy, governance, and emerging technologies.

By participating in these projects, scholars will gain hands-on experience in applying academic research to real-world public sector initiatives while contributing to technology-driven solutions of national importance.

UIDAI said the programme has been designed to bridge the gap between academic research and practical implementation, enabling researchers to understand the functioning of one of the world’s largest digital identity systems.

Stipend and Selection Process

Under the internship programme, selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend of up to ₹50,000, with the amount varying according to the academic discipline and other applicable criteria.

For candidates who are already receiving a fellowship or financial assistance from another source, UIDAI will pay only the difference between their existing fellowship amount and the stipend prescribed under the internship programme, subject to the maximum permissible limit.

Applications will be evaluated on the basis of the candidate’s academic performance, research background, and the relevance of their expertise to UIDAI’s ongoing and proposed projects.

The authority has clarified that meeting the eligibility criteria alone does not guarantee selection, as the final decision will depend on the evaluation process and organisational requirements.

Application Process

Interested candidates can apply through the official UIDAI website before July 15, 2026. Applicants are advised to carefully review the eligibility conditions, required documents, and programme guidelines before submitting their applications.

Through this initiative, UIDAI aims to strengthen collaboration between academia and government while promoting research in digital identity and emerging technologies.

The internship offers PhD scholars an opportunity to gain practical experience, work with experienced professionals, and contribute to projects that support India’s expanding digital public infrastructure.
