Shaadi.com Launches Weekly WFH for 500 Staff

In a swift response to a national appeal for resource conservation, Anupam Mittal, founder and CEO of People Group and Shaadi.com, has announced the implementation of a mandatory one-day-a-week work-from-home (WFH) policy.
Effective immediately, all 500 employees at the company will work remotely every Wednesday to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to reduce fuel consumption amid global supply pressures.
The “30,000 Litre” Impact
The initiative follows a recent address by Prime Minister Modi, who urged citizens and corporations to limit unnecessary travel and reconsider remote work arrangements due to heightened energy supply concerns stemming from the Iran-US conflict.
With India importing over 88% of its crude oil, the PM encouraged a return to virtual meetings and public transport wherever feasible.
Anupam shared the rationale behind the move on social media, highlighting the environmental and economic benefits.
According to internal calculations, allowing 500 staff members to work from home just one day a week is estimated to save approximately 30,000 litres of petrol annually.
This reduction represents nearly a 20% cut in commute-related fuel usage for the workforce.

Shaadi.com Boosting Productivity and Hybrid Culture
While the primary driver is fuel conservation, Anupam noted that the mid-week remote day could serve as a productivity catalyst.
By providing a break from the strenuous daily commute—particularly in traffic-congested Indian cities—employees may find a better balance between focused work and collaborative office days.
The announcement has sparked a wider conversation online about the future of the hybrid work model.
While some critics express concerns over potential productivity dips in remote settings, Anupam maintains that the efficacy of such policies depends on the specific needs of the organization.
He suggested that during non-crisis periods, a two-day remote structure might eventually become the industry standard.
A Growing Corporate Trend
Shaadi.com joins a growing list of Indian firms re-evaluating traditional office requirements in light of urban congestion and global geopolitical uncertainties.
By aligning corporate policy with national interests, Anupam’s “WFH Wednesdays” sets a precedent for how the tech sector can contribute to national sustainability goals while maintaining operational continuity.
