The Central Government has decided to advance the disbursement of September 2026 salaries, wages and pensions to September 25, ahead of a proposed three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30.

According to various media reports on September 25, the decision was taken to avoid delays in salary, wage and pension payments due to possible disruption of banking services during the strike. The report is based on information from PTI.
Who Will Receive the Payment Early?
The advance payment applies to Central Government employees, including employees working in Defence, Posts and Telecommunications. Industrial employees of the Central Government are also covered.
Central Government pensioners are also expected to receive their September pension on September 25 through banks or Pay and Accounts Offices (PAOs).

The payment made on September 25 will be treated as an advance payment, and not as an additional salary or pension.
If any adjustment is required after the employee’s full-month salary or pension entitlement is determined, it will be made against the October 2026 payment.
Why Has the Government Advanced the Payment?
The decision comes against the backdrop of the proposed three-day bank strike scheduled from September 28 to 30. The strike period also falls close to the end of the quarter, when banking and financial transactions typically see increased activity.

The Controller General of Accounts, under the Ministry of Finance, has instructed concerned government departments to make arrangements for early disbursement.
The government has also indicated that other payments and banking transactions due towards the end of September may be processed in advance wherever feasible to minimise disruption.
The strike has been called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) and associated bank employee and officer unions. One of the key demands is a five-day banking week.
The proposed strike could affect branch-based banking services, although digital banking channels are expected to remain available.
For Central Government employees and pensioners, the early release means their September payment is being processed before the proposed disruption, rather than waiting for the usual month-end payment cycle.
