India’s premier engineering institutes have taken a firm stand against companies withdrawing job offers made through campus placements.

The All IITs Placement Committee (AIPC), representing all 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), has asked more than 10 recruiters to either honour their hiring commitments or compensate affected students with three months’ salary.

The move follows a rise in revoked job offers during the 2025-26 placement season, leaving several graduates without the jobs they had accepted through campus recruitment.

According to reports, around 100 students across the IIT system have been affected in Campus Hiring.

Deadline Set for Recruiters

The AIPC has given the companies until August 15 to resolve the issue by either onboarding the selected candidates, providing a mutually agreed delayed joining date, or paying compensation equivalent to three months’ salary.

Companies that fail to comply could face restrictions or be barred from participating in future IIT placement drives.

Professor John Jose, Convenor of the AIPC, said the number of revoked offers this year is significantly higher than in previous years. The committee believes companies participating in campus recruitment should honour the commitments they make to students.

The IITs are expected to review the matter again in early September before the next campus placement season begins.

Companies Yet to Issue Detailed Public Responses

Several companies, including Oracle, Interview Kickstart, and SuperAGI, have been named in media reports as being among the recruiters that either withdrew offers or delayed hiring.

So far, none of these companies has issued a detailed public statement explaining its position.

Reports indicate that Oracle is in discussions with the IIT placement committee and is reviewing the affected offers internally. There have been no official public responses from Interview Kickstart or SuperAGI.

According to reports, some recruiters have cited business challenges, changing hiring requirements, project delays, or weaker market conditions as reasons for revising their hiring plans. However, these explanations have not been publicly attributed to specific companies.

Media reports also suggest that some recruiters are reluctant to pay the three months’ salary compensation proposed by the AIPC, though the companies have not been identified.

Protecting Student Interests in Campus Hiring

The AIPC’s decision reflects growing concerns over employer accountability in campus hiring.

Students who receive and accept campus offers often stop participating in other recruitment processes, making them particularly vulnerable if an employer later withdraws the offer.

By insisting that recruiters either honour their commitments or compensate affected candidates, the IITs aim to protect students while maintaining the credibility of the campus placement process.

The outcome of the ongoing discussions could also shape future placement policies, with stricter rules likely for recruiters who fail to meet their commitments.
