EPFO Launches WhatsApp Service for PF Balance and Passbook

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has launched a WhatsApp-based service allowing more than 8 crore active subscribers to check their Provident Fund (PF) balance, access passbook information and view their latest five transactions without visiting an EPFO office.

Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched the facility on November 1, 2026, during EPFO’s 74th Foundation Day celebrations in New Delhi. The service is intended to make routine PF-related information more accessible through a commonly used messaging platform.
What Services Can EPFO Members Access on WhatsApp?
Under the new facility, subscribers can use EPFO’s verified WhatsApp service to access basic information about their PF accounts.
The services include:

- PF Balance: Check the available balance in the Employees’ Provident Fund account.
- Passbook Information: Access details of PF contributions and account transactions.
- Latest Five Transactions: View the most recent transactions recorded in the account.
- PMVBRY Assistance: Receive personalised guidance and assistance in completing requirements under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana.
According to the Labour Ministry, the facility will reduce the need for subscribers to visit EPFO offices for routine account-related queries.
However, the WhatsApp facility is currently intended for accessing account information. The ministry’s announcement does not confirm whether members can initiate PF withdrawals or transfers through the service.
EPFO has described it as a verified WhatsApp service, but the ministry’s launch announcement does not provide detailed activation instructions. Members should check EPFO’s official communication channels for the authorised contact number before using the facility.

EPFO Introduces Automatic Settlement of Inoperative PF Accounts
Alongside the WhatsApp service, EPFO has introduced automatic settlement of eligible inoperative EPF accounts with balances of up to ₹1,000.
Under this facility, subscribers with Aadhaar-verified inoperative accounts will not have to file individual claims to receive their eligible dues. EPFO will initiate the settlement after completing the prescribed identity and bank account verification.
According to the Labour Ministry, approximately one lakh inoperative accounts involving around ₹5 crore are expected to benefit from this initiative.
For employees, these measures are relevant because they provide easier access to PF account information and simplify the recovery of eligible small balances from inactive accounts. The initiatives are part of EPFO’s efforts to improve access to social security services for its members.
