SBI Announces Hiring of 1,500 Probationary Officers This Year

State Bank of India (SBI) has announced the recruitment of 1,500 Probationary Officers (POs) during the current financial year.

According to the recruitment notification, the bank will fill 1,446 regular vacancies and 54 backlog vacancies. The online application process is currently open and will close on July 8.

SBI expects to complete the recruitment process by December 2026.

The recruitment is part of the bank’s regular hiring exercise to fill officer-level positions across its branches and offices.

Selection Process and Eligibility

Candidates applying for the PO posts must have a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognised university. Applicants should also be at least 21 years of age as of April 1, 2026.

The selection process will be conducted in three stages. It includes a preliminary examination, followed by the main examination. Candidates shortlisted after the written tests will appear for a group exercise and personal interview before the final merit list is prepared.

SBI Continues Hiring Across Functions

Apart from recruiting Probationary Officers, SBI is also hiring professionals for specialist positions in different departments.

These include Information Technology, Risk Management, Legal, Treasury, Compliance, Data Analytics and Data Centre Operations. The bank carries out these recruitments separately based on business and operational requirements.

Over 25,000 Employees Recruited Last Year

SBI’s latest annual report shows that the bank recruited 25,633 employees during FY2025-26. This included 4,640 officers, 19,340 associates and 1,653 contractual employees. In addition, the bank recruited 67 sportspersons during the year.

The report also said SBI’s employee attrition remained low at 0.97% during FY2025-26, indicating that most employees continued with the organisation.

With a workforce of more than 2.45 lakh employees, SBI remains one of the country’s largest employers. The latest recruitment drive reflects the bank’s continued focus on filling vacancies and maintaining its workforce as banking operations expand across physical branches and digital channels.

The recruitment also offers an opportunity for graduates looking to build a career in the banking sector.

Candidates selected as Probationary Officers will undergo training before being posted to different branches and business units across the country. SBI is expected to release further details related to the examination schedule and admit cards in the coming months.
