Explaining the expansion, Rao said the institute had seen an increase in admissions among high-ranking BITSAT candidates following its earlier scholarship initiative.
In 2026, the number of eligible students among the top 500 BITSAT rankers who joined BITS Pilani increased by 50%. The score required to enter this group also rose from 314 to 324.
He added that admissions among candidates ranked between 501 and 1,000 also increased, although they were not covered under the earlier initiative. Overall, the number of students joining from the top 1,000 rankers increased by 50%.
BITS Pilani Disbursed ₹190 Crore in Scholarships
During the academic year 2025-26, BITS Pilani distributed approximately ₹190 crore through scholarships, fee waivers and fellowships across its First Degree, Higher Degree and PhD programmes.
Of this amount, around ₹101 crore went to undergraduate students through merit-based, merit-cum-need and international student scholarships. The institute said approximately one in every four students across its campuses received financial assistance.
The expansion is expected to extend full tuition support to a larger group of high-performing students and reduce the financial barrier to accessing higher education.
