Google has officially expanded its agentic AI ecosystem to India with the launch of Gemini Spark, a persistent, 24/7 personal AI agent designed to execute multi-step digital workflows asynchronously.

Unveiled earlier at Google I/O, the rollout marks a significant shift from traditional query-response chatbots to proactive background execution.

Background Execution & Native Integration

Underpinned by the Gemini 3.6 Flash model, Gemini Spark operates directly on secure Google Cloud virtual infrastructure.

Unlike basic AI assistants that require an open browser session, Spark runs independently in the background—continuing to monitor and complete complex tasks even when a user’s laptop or mobile device is locked or switched off.

The AI agent integrates natively with Google Workspace tools, including Gmail, Google Docs, Sheets, Drive, and Calendar. Users can delegate multi-step, recurring actions through simple prompts, such as:

  • Inbox Management & Audit: Automatically auditing monthly digital invoices in Gmail to detect subscription price increases or pre-drafting cancellation notices for expiring free trials.
  • Logistics & Event Planning: Scanning incoming flight or hotel confirmation emails to auto-populate a dedicated itinerary in Google Sheets while adding open local events to Google Calendar.
  • Personalized Communications: Reading a user’s sent emails to build a reusable style guide skill, allowing the agent to draft future customer responses in the user’s distinct tone.

Eligibility and Subscription Plans

Gemini Spark is rolling out to Indian users signed in with personal Google Accounts who hold a qualifying premium tier subscription:

  • Google AI Pro (5TB & 10TB): Priced starting at ₹1,950 per month.
  • Google AI Ultra (20TB & 30TB): Priced starting at ₹6,500 per month.

For now, the feature is limited to users aged 18 and older and remains excluded from basic Google AI Plus plans as well as enterprise or school Workspace accounts.

Gemini Spark for HR Leaders

For HR leaders, Gemini Spark acts as an AI assistant for routine HR operations, automating repetitive tasks such as resume screening, interview coordination, policy drafting, and workflow management.

By taking care of time-consuming administrative work, it allows HR teams to dedicate more time to strategic priorities such as talent retention, leadership development, employee experience, and organisational growth.

Built-in Safety Safeguards

To ensure security and user privacy, Google has embedded strict confirmation checkpoints.

While Spark autonomously parses context across connected applications, it pauses and prompts the user for explicit approval before executing high-stakes actions—such as sending outbound communications, modifying sensitive spreadsheets, or processing transactions.

Users also retain granular control to choose which applications Spark can access or toggle the agent off at any time.
