HCL Group to Invest ₹500 Crore in Lucknow IT City Expansion, 6,000 Jobs Expected

HCL Group will invest ₹500 crore to expand HCL IT City in Lucknow, with the project expected to create around 6,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities. The expansion will add up to 9.5 lakh square feet of capacity and further strengthen Lucknow’s position as a technology and global capability centre hub.

The announcement was made as HCLTech marked 10 years of its operations in Lucknow. The proposed expansion will provide capacity for around 4,500 technology professionals and add new infrastructure to the existing IT City campus.

Expansion to Add Technology Capacity

The second phase of HCL IT City is planned as part of the company’s continued investment in Uttar Pradesh. The expansion is expected to increase technology infrastructure in Lucknow and support additional employment in the city.

HCLTech currently employs more than 12,500 people at its Lucknow facility and serves over 150 global enterprises. The company has also partnered with more than 40 engineering colleges in the region to support industry-academia collaboration and create technology career opportunities for students.

Focus on AI and Emerging Technology Skills

Along with the expansion, HCLTech has announced an AI upskilling programme for 1,000 students across Uttar Pradesh through its LITMUS programme during FY27.

The company has also launched the HCL-GUVI Emerging Technology Centre at HCL IT City. The centre will focus on training students and professionals in artificial intelligence, data analytics and other emerging technologies.

HCLTech’s TechBee programme has already trained and employed more than 2,200 candidates from Uttar Pradesh.

Lucknow Emerging as AI and Technology Hub

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said the state aims to establish Lucknow as a major AI innovation hub. The state plans to support at least 50 AI startups in Lucknow over the next five years.

The government is also seeking to expand Lucknow’s technology ecosystem beyond traditional IT services, with a focus on AI, semiconductors, cybersecurity, computing technologies and deep tech.

For HCL Group, the expansion adds to its long-term presence in Uttar Pradesh and its focus on developing local technology talent. The company’s growing footprint in Lucknow is expected to create additional opportunities for technology professionals and students in the region.
