Amazon India Opens 8-Week Software Internship Under AFE Program

Amazon has opened applications for an eight-week Software Development Internship in India under its Amazon Future Engineer (AFE) programme.

The internship is designed for college students pursuing computer science and provides hands-on exposure to software development, technical mentoring and Amazon’s technology environment.

The opportunity is listed on Amazon’s official careers website. The current listing shows internship opportunities in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Delhi-NCR.

According to Amazon, the eight-week programme is intended to help students understand where a computer science degree can lead and gain early practical experience.

Interns will work with technical mentors, managers and other AFE interns while getting an opportunity to work with technologies and tools used at Amazon.

The programme also provides opportunities for interns to learn from and interact with Amazon leaders.

Who Can Apply?

The current Amazon listing specifies that candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and be second-year undergraduate students enrolled at an accredited four-year college or university.

Applicants should have completed an AP Computer Science course or equivalent, intend to declare Computer Science as their major by the end of their junior year, and have basic experience with front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Amazon also lists experience with scripting languages such as Perl, Python, or JavaScript and object-oriented programming languages such as Java or C++ as preferred qualifications. Strong problem-solving ability is also preferred.

However, there is an important eligibility condition. Applicants must be current Amazon Future Engineer scholarship recipients. Therefore, this is not a general Amazon internship open to every computer science student.

What Does the Internship Offer?

The programme gives selected students an opportunity to gain practical experience while working with Amazon teams. Interns will work closely with a technical mentor and manager and collaborate with other AFE interns.

Amazon says participants will also have opportunities to network with Amazon leaders and attend company events during the programme.

The internship is part of Amazon’s wider Amazon Future Engineer programme in India. In May 2026, Amazon announced 500 new AFE scholarships for women engineering students from low-income families. The programme currently supports 2,000 active scholars, according to Amazon.

The AFE scholarship provides ₹2 lakh in financial assistance over four years, along with a laptop, technical training, mentorship and paid eight-week internship opportunities at Amazon after the students complete their second year.

Amazon said around 400 AFE scholars had completed internships in various technical roles at Amazon as of its May 2026 announcement.

The company also said the programme’s first graduating cohort in 2025 recorded an 89% placement rate, with graduates securing jobs at Amazon and other companies.
