The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has invited applications for 35 paid internships at its Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (CVRDE), Avadi, Chennai, for the academic year 2026–27.

The six-month internships offer a stipend of ₹5,000 per month.

35 Internships Across Four Engineering Areas

The programme is open to eligible final-year undergraduate and postgraduate engineering students. B.E./B.Tech students studying in the 7th or 8th semester, and M.E./M.Tech students in the first or second year, can apply in the specified disciplines.

The 35 positions are divided into 15 undergraduate and 20 postgraduate internships:

  • Mechanical Engineering: 7 UG and 12 PG
  • Electronics/Electronics & Communication/Electronic & Instrumentation: 5 UG and 5 PG
  • Electrical Engineering: 2 UG and 2 PG
  • Computer Science/AI/ML/IT: 1 UG and 1 PG

The internship will be conducted at CVRDE, Avadi, Chennai. CVRDE works on the design and development of armoured fighting vehicles and related systems and technologies for the Indian Army, Air Force and Navy.

Eligibility, Stipend and Application Details

Applicants must be regular students of a recognised Indian university or institute, with students from AICTE-approved technical institutions or UGC-approved universities eligible to apply.

Candidates must have at least 85% marks or 8.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale, and must have maintained a minimum 8.5 CGPA in previous semesters. The age limit is below 28 years as on July 1, 2026. Students with backlogs are not eligible.

The stipend is ₹5,000 per month for six months and will be paid in two instalments of ₹15,000 each. Students must complete at least 20 working days per month at CVRDE to receive the stipend. No fee is charged at the application stage or during the internship.

Applicants need to submit the prescribed application form with a recent photograph, institute request letter/NOC, undertaking, semester marksheets, bonafide and character certificate, Aadhaar and college ID copies, student biodata and supporting documents for awards, publications or patents, where applicable.

Applications will be accepted only through Speed Post, Courier or Registered Post.

The application must reach CVRDE by September 18, 2026. Late, incomplete or incorrect applications will be rejected.

The official DRDO notice also states that the internship does not create any right to employment with CVRDE or DRDO after completion.
