The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has opened applications for 1,083 internships under its Winter Internship Programme 2026–27 and Term Internship Programme 2027. Eligible students can apply through the NHAI Internship Portal until October 20, 2026.

The internships will provide students with practical exposure to ongoing National Highway projects and different functional areas of NHAI and the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL).

Internship Opportunities Across 125 Highway Projects

Of the total positions, 541 internships are available under the Winter Internship Programme and 542 positions under the Term Internship Programme.

The Winter Internship will run for one month between December 2026 and January 2027, while the Term Internship Programme will run for six months from January to June 2027.

Students can indicate their preferred internship duration within the prescribed period while applying.

Selected interns will be placed across 125 ongoing National Highway projects, along with various NHAI and IHMCL divisions.

The internship will provide exposure to areas including:

  • Planning and construction
  • Operations and maintenance
  • Asset management and road safety
  • Legal and finance
  • Media and communications
  • Information technology and engineering-related functions

Selected candidates will receive a ₹20,000 monthly stipend under the NHAI Internship Policy. They will also receive a certificate after successfully completing the internship.

Who Can Apply?

The programme is open to eligible pre-final and final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students pursuing full-time courses from recognised institutions in India or abroad.

Eligible disciplines include Civil Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Law, Mass Communication and Journalism.

Students pursuing MA in HR/Industrial Relations and Personnel Management and MBA in HR, Finance, Marketing or equivalent programmes can also apply.

NHAI has reserved 100 seats for students from IITs and 150 seats for students from NITs. Eligible institutions have been identified based on NIRF rankings and other recognised academic benchmarks.

How to Apply

Students need to submit their applications online through the dedicated NHAI Internship Portal. The process includes submission of academic details, institute verification and recommendation, followed by selection and project allocation by NHAI.

The last date to apply is October 20, 2026. Institutes will complete their recommendation process by November 10, 2026.
