UNICEF Internships Open to Indian Students and Recent Graduates

UNICEF is offering internship opportunities to students and recent graduates through its global Internship Programme, allowing eligible candidates an opportunity to gain practical work experience with the United Nations agency. Indian students and recent graduates can apply for suitable vacancies, subject to the eligibility criteria and requirements of each position.

Who Can Apply?

According to UNICEF, applicants must be at least 18 years old and either enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or PhD programme, or have graduated within the past two years.

Candidates should also be proficient in at least one of UNICEF’s working languages — English, French or Spanish. Depending on the internship, applicants may also need proficiency in the working language of the relevant office.

UNICEF says applicants should have strong academic performance and motivation. Relevant professional experience may also receive additional consideration.

Candidates must not have immediate relatives working with UNICEF or relatives in their reporting line of authority.

Internship Duration and Stipend

UNICEF internships normally last between six and 26 weeks and may be offered on a full-time or part-time basis.

The organisation states that interns receive a monthly stipend. A one-time contribution towards travel and visa costs may also be provided when funding is available. UNICEF also says it can provide supporting documents for visa applications when required.

The stipend should not, however, be reported as a fixed US$1,000 per month for all UNICEF internships. UNICEF’s official programme information does not specify a universal $1,000 amount; financial arrangements can vary according to the internship and funding arrangements.

How Indian Candidates Can Apply

UNICEF says internship opportunities are offered throughout the year and are listed on its official vacancies page. Candidates from India can apply for vacancies for which they meet the stated eligibility and location requirements.

Importantly, the programme is global. An eligible Indian candidate may apply for an internship outside India if the particular vacancy permits it. An internship being available through UNICEF’s global programme does not mean that the position is based in India.

As of October 3, 2026, UNICEF’s careers portal continues to list internship opportunities across different countries, while its India vacancies page separately lists opportunities based in India.

Candidates should therefore check the location, eligibility, closing date and other conditions of each vacancy before applying.

Candidates should apply through the official UNICEF Careers vacancies portal and not through third-party websites to explore internship opportunities.
