Heavy rainfall brought Gurugram to a standstill on Tuesday, with flooded roads, road cave-ins and long traffic jams disrupting normal life across the city.

As the situation worsened, Gurugram Police advised corporate offices and private establishments to allow employees to work from home over the next few days to reduce traffic and ensure commuter safety.

Roads Damaged, Traffic Hit Across the City

Several parts of Gurugram witnessed severe waterlogging after continuous rain. A section of the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway (NH-48) near Narsinghpur caved in, forcing authorities to close affected lanes and divert traffic. The damage resulted in traffic moving slowly for several kilometres.

Another road collapse was reported on Civil Lines Road, where parked vehicles got stuck after the road surface gave way. In a separate incident, a school bus slipped into an open drain due to waterlogging. Fortunately, no students were on board and no injuries were reported.

Major roads, including Hero Honda Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Sohna Road, Golf Course Extension Road and Udyog Vihar, remained heavily congested, with many commuters spending hours on the road.

Police Urge Companies to Support Employees

To reduce the number of vehicles on the roads, Gurugram Police requested companies to encourage employees to work from home wherever possible. The advisory said fewer vehicles would help traffic management teams and civic authorities carry out repair and relief work more efficiently.

Residents have also been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, follow traffic advisories and use alternate routes whenever possible.

The latest spell of heavy rain has once again exposed Gurugram’s drainage and infrastructure problems, which often create difficulties during the monsoon.

With more rainfall expected, civic authorities remain on alert to clear waterlogged roads and restore normal traffic movement.
