EPFO Plans WhatsApp Service for PF Balance, Passbook, Claim Status

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is planning a WhatsApp-based service that could allow members to check their PF balance, passbook details and claim status through their phones, according to reports.

The proposed facility is expected to give EPF members another way to access basic account information without repeatedly logging into the EPFO website or using other digital platforms.

However, there is no official confirmation yet of when EPFO’s WhatsApp services will be rolled out nationwide completely.

What the WhatsApp Service May Offer

Reports on the proposed service say members could be able to start a conversation by sending a message such as “Hello” to an official EPFO WhatsApp number. The service is expected to provide access to selected PF-related information through an automated system.

The reported services include:

  • Checking the PF balance
  • Viewing recent PF transactions
  • Checking claim status
  • Getting updates related to pending claims or account services

The exact WhatsApp number, launch date, and complete list of services should be confirmed by EPFO before members start using the facility.

EPFO already provides several digital options for members. Its official passbook portal allows members to check their EPF passbook and claim status after logging in with their UAN and password.

The organisation also provides a missed-call facility and SMS service for balance-related information.

Existing Digital Services Continue

EPFO services are also available through the UMANG app. Government information on EPFO services states that members can use UMANG to access their passbook, track claims, submit online claim forms, and perform other UAN-related services.

The EPFO member portal currently provides access to services such as UAN activation, retrieving a UAN, tracking applications and accessing member account services.

For employees, easier access to PF information can be useful when checking whether contributions have been credited, reviewing previous transactions or following up on a claim. Employers and HR teams may also see fewer routine queries if members can obtain basic account information directly.

At present, members should continue using EPFO’s official website, UMANG and other verified EPFO channels for PF-related services.

EPFO itself warns members not to share their UAN, Aadhaar, PAN, bank details, OTPs or other personal information through calls, messages or WhatsApp with unverified persons.
