L&T Wins Major ONGC Offshore Contract; May Boost Engineering Jobs

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has won a major offshore contract from state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), adding another large project to its order book this week.

The contract, valued between ₹5,000 crore and ₹10,000 crore under L&T’s order classification, involves replacing ageing offshore pipelines and building new production platforms along India’s west coast.
The project comes at a time when ONGC is investing in modernising its offshore assets to improve safety, reliability and production from its existing oil and gas fields.
For L&T, the latest win further strengthens its position in India’s offshore engineering and energy infrastructure business.
What Will L&T Execute?

The contract includes engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) of multiple subsea pipeline sections under ONGC’s Pipeline Replacement Project (PRP-X).
L&T Energy will also carry out modification work across ONGC’s offshore facilities.
In a separate order from ONGC, the company will construct four wellhead platforms, which are used for drilling and production activities in offshore oil and gas fields.
Both projects will be executed by L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Offshore, the company’s specialised offshore engineering business.

Why the Project Is Important
Many of ONGC’s offshore pipelines and production facilities have been operating for several decades. Replacing ageing pipelines is important to maintain safe operations, reduce the risk of leaks and ensure uninterrupted energy production.
The new wellhead platforms will also support future oil and gas output from offshore fields.
The order follows another major international contract secured by L&T earlier this week from ADNOC Offshore in the Middle East, indicating continued demand for the company’s offshore engineering capabilities in both domestic and overseas markets.
What It Could Mean for Jobs
While L&T has not announced any hiring linked to the project, large offshore contracts typically create work opportunities across engineering, fabrication, marine construction, logistics and project management.
They also generate business for equipment suppliers and contractors involved in offshore energy projects.
With India continuing to invest in energy infrastructure, such projects are expected to support demand for skilled engineers, technicians, welders and other project professionals over the coming years.
