Google Adds 10,000 Employees in Six Months, Headcount Reaches 204,757

Google’s parent company Alphabet added 10,089 employees in six months, taking its total workforce to 204,757 as of September 30, 2026. The increase comes at a time when several major technology companies are reducing employee numbers.

The growth reflects a combination of hiring and acquisitions, including the purchase of cybersecurity company Wiz. Alphabet also reported a 25% increase in quarterly revenue, supported by strong growth in its Google Cloud business.
Alphabet’s Workforce Crosses 2 Lakh
Alphabet reported 204,757 employees at the end of September 2026, compared with 194,668 at the end of March. This represents a net increase of 10,089 employees in six months.
The company added 5,824 employees between June and September alone, taking its workforce from 198,933 to 204,757. The figures were disclosed in Alphabet’s third-quarter financial results.

The increase also represents a 7.7% rise in employee numbers compared with September 2025, when Alphabet reported 190,167 employees.
Wiz Acquisition Adds to Employee Numbers
Part of the increase is linked to Alphabet’s acquisition of cybersecurity company Wiz.
Google completed the $29.5 billion acquisition of Wiz on March 11, 2026. Wiz had approximately 2,000 employees, who joined Google Cloud following the deal.

This means the increase in Alphabet’s workforce is not entirely due to fresh recruitment. The reported employee figures include people added through acquisitions as well as hiring across its existing businesses.
Strong Google Cloud Growth Supports Expansion
Alphabet’s workforce growth comes alongside an increase in its business revenue. The company reported third-quarter revenue of $127.6 billion, up 25% from $102.3 billion in the corresponding quarter last year.
Google Cloud recorded revenue of $30.7 billion, compared with $15.2 billion in the year-ago quarter, representing growth of approximately 103%.
The latest figures come against a different workforce trend at several major technology companies, where cost-cutting and restructuring have led to job reductions. Google itself had announced plans to cut around 12,000 jobs in January 2023, equivalent to approximately 6% of its workforce at that time.
For HR leaders, Alphabet’s latest numbers underline how workforce requirements can differ across technology businesses. While some companies are reducing employee numbers, others are adding people to support business expansion, cloud services and AI-related operations.
However, the reported headcount increase should be viewed as a combination of recruitment and acquisition-led expansion rather than 10,000 new hires.
