AECOM Appoints Dr. Sanjay Gambhir as MD – Buildings & Places India

AECOM has elevated Dr. Sanjay Gambhir to Managing Director – Buildings & Places India, expanding his leadership role after more than five years with the company.

In his new role, Sanjay will be responsible for business strategy, revenue, margins and operations, while developing client relationships and expanding AECOM’s presence across data centres, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing and other sectors.

Extensive Experience

Sanjay has more than three decades of professional experience across engineering, power projects, infrastructure and built-environment sectors. He joined AECOM in 2021 as Director and subsequently took on senior leadership roles within the Buildings & Places business.

Before his current appointment, he served as Executive Director & India Head – Buildings & Places, leading the business in India and responsible for growth, client relationships, operations and delivery.

His work covered building engineering, project and construction management, cost management and urban planning, with a focus on sectors including data centres, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, commercial real estate, healthcare, energy and industrial projects.

Earlier, Sanjay was India Head – Building Engineering and Building Engineering – North & East Regional Leader at AECOM. His responsibilities included business development, project delivery, and building engineering operations across several infrastructure sectors.

Before joining AECOM, he spent about 15 years with Doosan Power Systems, progressing to Senior General Manager after serving in General Manager and DGM roles. He worked on EPC operations, plant engineering, power projects, automation, piping and project management.

Earlier, he spent more than six years with Siemens as Manager – Projects, working in project engineering and piping for thermal and combined-cycle power projects.

Sanjay also worked as a Research Scholar and Senior Project Officer at IIT Madras, contributing to research on fluidised bed technologies and circulating fluidised bed boilers.

He is associated with IIT Madras through his research work in fluidised bed technologies and clean-fuel technology development.
